Big Lots (NYSE:BIG) will be offering shoppers Black Friday deals every day this season, as the home goods retailer joins a growing list of those looking to extend the promotional event beyond the single day.
The retailer is launching its season-long promotions with a musical campaign celebrating the "Black Friday Woman." Big Lots created original songs—one, a play on Santana's "Black Magic Woman" and another titled "Christmas Doesn't Happen Without Me."
"We understand Black Friday isn't just a one-day event as it has been traditionally promoted, but an expectation by our customers that every day has to be Black Friday for great deals and more," said Andrew Stein, chief customer officer, Big Lots. "We know our customers are extremely busy during the holidays, and we can be the partner to help her deliver the best Christmas for her friends and family."
Black Friday is no longer a single day event. It starts earlier—Walmart began holiday sales Nov. 1—and keeps company with Thanksgiving Day sales, Cyber Monday and deals updated hourly as retailers do their best to leverage digital and omnichannel capabilities. But Big Lots is especially challenged: the chain doesn't have an e-commerce presence and won't until sometime next year.
