Anthropologie (NASDAQ:URBN) has announced an expansion in France. The apparel retailer made its debut in the BHV department store in Paris last September. Now the chain will expand to two more locations and introduce a French version of its website this summer.
The first location will be a 650-sq.-ft. corner at Galerie Lafayette's Boulevard Haussmann flagship, reported Women's Wear Daily. When it opens on March 9, the store will launch with an exhibition by Parisian artist Florence Balducci, a friend and collaborator of the brand.
The second corner opening will span 430 sq. ft. of Galeries Lafayette in Nice in April. This location will feature ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories in addition to housewares.
Expansion plans, especially involving large-format stores, have been a priority for parent company Urban Outfitters in the past year. Last September the company announced plans to open 25 to 50 Anthropologie stores in the next five years that will be three times larger than the typical 7,100-sq.-ft. store. The company is also testing larger formats of its signature brand name and Free People chains.
