Amazon opens first Illinois warehouse

Amazon opened its first Illinois warehouse this week in the city of Joliet, creating 1,000 new jobs. To welcome the e-commerce retailer, the state will give Amazon a tax break for up to 10 years in exchange for a $40 million investment in a retrofitted 500,000 sq. ft. fulfillment center. Amazon had long avoided opening a warehouse in Illinois due to taxes. But when the retailer began collecting sales tax from its local customers in February, Illinois state officials began to more widely accept a partnership with Amazon. Story
