Amazon Marketplace grew 40% on Cyber Monday

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced strong growth for its Marketplace platform as the number of items—more than 23 million in all—shipped from sellers grew 40 percent on Cyber Monday.

Amazon's Fulfillment delivered more than 1 billion items worldwide in 2015 for businesses selling on Amazon. FBA is a service whereby Amazon stores, picks, packs and ships orders worldwide, manages customer service, and makes their items Prime eligible.

Sellers on Amazon's Marketplace benefited from access to the retailer's customer base and sold to more than 80 percent of Amazon customers who ordered a physical item.

Amazon tends to release data points, or fun facts, following big sales events. After Christmas, the company said it had added 3 million new Prime members in the third week of December and shipped 200 million more items with Prime this year than last.
