Amazon's (NASDAQ:AMZN) business marketplace has generated $1 billion in sales in its first year, and the online retailer now accounts for 60 percent of U.S. online sales growth.
"Amazon makes up a larger percentage of e-commerce in the U.S. than any other player, and its retail growth has outpaced overall online retail," Forrester Research wrote in a recent report, titled "U.S. Online Retail Forecast: 2015 to 2020."
Amazon was accountable for 60 percent of the online sales growth in the United States last year, according to Forrester Research. Much of those sales came from third-party marketplace sellers, which include many traditional retailers. Forrester estimates this revenue at 20 percent of Amazon's overall sales.
The company's online business marketplace topped $1 billion in sales during its first year and is growing at a rate of 20 percent month over month, according to Prentis Wilson, Amazon VP.
Amazon's business marketplace and business services are key growth vehicles for company.
Amazon added more than 30,000 sellers and 300,000 businesses to its business marketplace platform in the past year and continues to add "thousands of customers" every week, Wilson told Reuters.
