Amazon acquires mobile video service Elemental Technologies

Amazon has acquired Elemental Technologies, a mobile video service, for a reported $500 million as part of Amazon's Web Services unit.  

Portland, Oregon-based Elemental specializes in video processing and has worked to provide back-end video solutions for networks including ABC, ESPN and HBO.

"Elemental has pioneered a number of software-based solutions for multiscreen content delivery and powers many of the world's most innovative app-delivered video offerings and new services like 4K TV," said Jeff Barr, Amazon Web Services chief evangelist.
