Amazon acquires mobile video service Elemental Technologies

Amazon has acquired Elemental Technologies, a mobile video service, for a reported $500 million as part of Amazon's Web Services unit.

Portland, Oregon-based Elemental specializes in video processing and has worked to provide back-end video solutions for networks including ABC, ESPN and HBO.

"Elemental has pioneered a number of software-based solutions for multiscreen content delivery and powers many of the world's most innovative app-delivered video offerings and new services like 4K TV," said Jeff Barr, Amazon Web Services chief evangelist. "Elemental customers use its software to process and deliver video streams that are customized for a wide variety of different formats, displays, devices, data rates and environments." Story
