Alibaba taps Google exec as new VP, investor relations

Alibaba, China's largest online commerce company, announced the appointment of a new executive on July 21, and this one comes from Google.

The company named Jane Penner VP, head of investor relations—a position that will charge her with the leadership of Alibaba's investor relations team. The appointment will become effective August 11 and she will be based in San Francisco.

Penner's background includes technology, banking and media sectors, giving her a nuanced understanding of investor relations and financial communications. Before joining Alibaba, Penner led the investor relations team at Google.

Penner joined Google in 2008 from Bear Stearns, where she acted as managing director. Before that, she was a senior editor at TheStreet.com, where she worked as primary editor for founder/lead columnist Jim Cramer, who launched investment news and commentary website Real Money. Press Release
