Amazon sells more leggings than any other retailer and ranks as the third largest seller of denim, marking big gains for the retailer when it comes to apparel sales.
Leggings have replaced jeans as the most ordered apparel item online. Online leggings orders grew 41 percent in the past year, according to Slice Intelligence. Online denim sales increased just 3 percent in this time.
Amazon had the largest market share of leggings sales of any retailer at 11.6 percent, more than double the Gap's sales and more than triple that of Macy’s.
But while leggings sales are up on a unit basis, denim typically costs more, making Amazon's position as the third-largest seller in this category after Nordstrom and Old Navy significant.
Amazon sold 9.3 percent of the jeans bought online in the past year.
Amazon has struggled to get a foothold in apparel and fashion, but according to Slice, the company now has more than that, with a real leg up.
Fashion labels and brands have been hesitant to sell on Amazon, but the retailer continues to press on.

Last year, the online retailer launched a failed attempted to buy fashion retailer Net-a-Porter but has been developing private-label apparel, including Scout + Ro and Society New York, that are sure to be featured on "Style Code Live," a video shopping channel airing nightly on Amazon.
